Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for planning, developing, organizing and coordinating the company safety program, that effectively controls accident, incident, injuries and health exposures within company’s aims, while maintaining the efficiency of the terminals in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Kenai and the well-being of its employees, customers, and the community in accordance with all government regulations and corporate policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1)Prepares safety policies and procedures for management; provides support in implementing these policies and procedures. 2)Ensures that federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules are observed. 3)Ensures that OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements are met. 4)Monitors activities where accidents could occur, halting any operation or activity that constitutes an imminent hazard to personnel or equipment. 5)Evaluates hazards within the facility for safety, health, and environmental risks. 6)Monitors safety compliance to reduce risks. 7)Maintains contingency plans, including fire prevention, and procedures for controlling hazardous spills in accordance with government regulation and insurance company requirements. 8)Supervises maintenance of material safety data sheets so they are accessible at all times according to regulations. 9)Develops inspection policies and establishes regular inspection schedules. 10)Supervises training sessions for all aspects of driver, maintenance and office safety; including emergency preparedness, confined spaces, electrical safety, machine guarding, fall protection, and forklift safety. 11)Maintains EPA records of hazardous waste, air emission permitting, and water pollution discharge, as well as industrial health monitoring and records of employee hazard exposure according to OSHA regulations. 12)Monitors professional literature and attends seminars to stay current with governmental, insurance, and industry compliance requirements. 13)Investigates incidents, near misses, and safety issues in conjunction with line and staff personnel. Notifies top management of pertinent details. 14)Evaluates hazardous conditions and practices and develops hazard control practices and programs. 15)Overviews company incident and accident statistics and makes recommendations for correction of problem areas. 16)Assesses new developments in the health and safety field that may have application to the company's operations. 17)Establishes target areas and long-range accident prevention and cost-control objectives. 18)Keeps apprised of developments in federal and state safety laws likely to affect the company. 19)After investigating accidents, carefully analyzes reports from accident investigations to ascertain causes. 20)Reviews and recommends continued training and education of employees in safe and efficient work methods. QUALIFICATIONS Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word, and/or writing clearly and concisely. Ability to coach or train employees on safety policies and procedures. Ability to read and comprehend DOT and OSHA regulations. Ability to pay attention to minute details. Must be punctual, dependable and trustworthy. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE AA or BA in related field, three plus years related experience and/or training, three plus years driving with a class A, CDL and an understanding of safety policies and procedures. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as CFR’s, OSHA regulations, Workers’ Compensation insurance, procedure manuals, and drug policies. Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills by getting along well with others. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to quickly and accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must be familiar with Microsoft Office products, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access.
